Maddie was an electric 23-year-old living in Denver, Colorado. She was electric in the way she could light up any room she walked into, fiercely stood up for those she loved, and uplifted everyone around her with her generosity and unrestrained love. Everyone who met Maddie can recall a time she was there for them, supported them, and loved them when they really needed it.
Maddie enjoyed concierge work at Le’ Meridian downtown. She often spoke of how seeing traveler’s smile when she was able to provide room upgrades, made her smile. Maddie was constantly searching for her true passion. In 2019, she found it in becoming an esthetician. Maddie wasn’t one to settle. She completed all the paperwork to have her elite “school of choice” accredited for state scholarships, opening opportunities for future applicants. This work allowed her to give others the gift of self-confidence and to feel beautiful in their skin.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, it made completing her degree much harder due to the lack of hands-on time. But Maddie was determined and kept working. Shockingly, it wasn’t the pandemic that stopped her from reaching her goal, but a pressed pill containing 100% fentanyl. On September 9, 2020, Maddie ingested a pill that she never woke up from. Her friends and family were devastated, not only because they lost such an incredible person, but because Maddie was doing so well and had big plans for her future.
This is the message we hope to spread: These poisonings can happen to anyone, anytime, and often people get dosed without their consent or knowledge. Maddie was intentionally poisoned by someone she had an active restraining order against. Maddie thought she was taking a single oxy pill to relieve stress and sleep. She was left lifeless. There is still no justice. Maddie was full of life and had so much to give the world, and all of that was taken away by fentanyl. This cannot keep happening.
We will keep fighting for your loved ones, guided by the spirit of ours.
We will forever miss you, Maddie
